EJA U16s Essex League Cup Quarter Final, Sunday 3rd March 2013
This was the second of the Southchurch Park 'double header' and it was a very niggling type of game if truth be told. The home side were behind after 7 minutes when Thurrock's No.10 was left completely unmarked 12 yards out and made no mistake with the finish to slot past the keeper. It was a very scrappy contest with a lot of niggle and that continued in the second half. Manor drew level on 47 minutes were after a penalty box scramble the ball feel to Kye Jude who duly smashed the ball home. Manor took the lead after 56 minutes. A ball into the box was brought down by Moss who managed to turn the defender and hit an unstoppable shot across the keeper into the far corner. On 64 minutes it was 2-2. No.12 of Thurrock went on a run and kept going and going until he faced the goal and he slotted expertly past the keeper for a brilliant individual goal. Yet on 66 minutes Manor retook the lead. A fantastic ball into the box was flicked on into the path of Moss who stabbed home from six yards. On 68 minutes Manor's captain Kye Jude was sent off after picking up a second yellow making Manor's task of holding on even more difficult. Sure enough on 76 minutes Thurrock were level once again. From another cross the No.9 managed to get a shot away which deflected on route and past the goalkeeper into the corner. Extra time could not separate the sides and so it went to penalties. Manor missed their first two penalties and were never really able to recover from this and lost 4-2 on penalties.
