Essex Olympian League Senior Division Three, Wednesday 13th March 2013
This was an attractive looking fixture on paper. Debden Sports had won their last nine league games and Toby their last seven with both teams unbeaten since September and sitting 1st and 2nd in the league respectively on 28 points each so this was always going to be a tight and tense affair and so it proved. Both teams had quality in them but lacked that luck in the final third. Debden Sports shaded the first half and Toby probably shaded the second half. In the end it was a defensive error that was to prove decisive though when on 82 minutes a poor backpass was ceased upon by Toby forward Paul Carr and he kept his composure to curl the ball beyond the outstretched hand of the keeper for the only goal of the game. This sent Toby top of the league. So not the best of games but it was a good battle in dry but cold conditions.
