London Bari 2 Bowers & Pitsea 1

Essex Senior League Cup Semi-Final 1st Leg, Tuesday 12th March 2013

Tonight I made the short trip to Forest Gate to The Old Spotted Dog Ground, home of Clapton FC.   London Bari, who groundshare with Clapton, were entertaining Bowers & Pitsea in the first of the semi-final 1st leg encounters of the Essex Senior League Cup.   Bari would of been favourites to progress in the tie as they sit in the top ten of the league whilst Bowers are second bottom and have been on the end of some hidings of late.   But Bowers had the better of the first half and went in 1-0 ahead at the break thanks to a goal from Matt Taplow.  He tapped into an empty net after a great ball across the six yard box.   But a crazy  two minute spell shortly after the break would ultimately cost Bowers the 1st leg.  On 50 minutes a corner from the right went into the six yard box and nobody from Bowers picked up the Bari player and he buried a free header from six yards to make it 1-1 and then two minutes later Bowers gave away a penalty which Bari duly dispatched.  This was a very good competitive game though and the tie is very much still up for grabs with only one goal in it.
