Holland FC 4 Wivenhoe Town 1

Pre Season Friendly, Saturday 13th July 2013

I took a trip up the coastline from Clacton-on-Sea (as was staying nearby for the weekend so decided to take in a game) and on a beautifully warm day by the sea made it to Holland FC's nice little clubhouse on the recreation grounds there.  They were entertaining there local rivals Wivenhoe Town in an annual friendly which normally takes place here at the rec.  Holland flew out of the traps early on and took a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes through a close range header and a lob.  Wivenhoe tried to get a foothold in the game but struggled against a very robust home side who were not shirking any challenges and clearly looked up for this contest.  The home side went further ahead after a period of Wivenhoe pressure but the away side did manage a goal just before the break to make the half time score 3-1.   The second half brought a different Wivenhoe Town in more ways than one as they changed team and also kit and initially this did have an impact as the away side threatened to reduce the arrears.  However after a period of Wivenhoe dominance the home side went 4-1 ahead with another lob over the stranded keeper.  Wivenhoe's centre back struck the underside of the bar with an effort from outside the box and Holland also hit the woodwork with a brilliant volley.  More chances came and went but in the end Holland ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.
