On a very warm and sunny day Great Wakering Rovers hosted their annual pre season game against their local football league two side Southend United at Burroughs Park this afternoon. A decent crowd of 913 were treated to a very high tempo game and Wakering found themselves 2-0 up at the break courtesy of two goals from former Southend Manor striker Gary Paterson. In the second half the football league side gradually worked their magic on the hosts and ended up winning with a goal from Freddie Eastwood near full time but it was a good workout for both sides ahead of the coming season. A very enjoyable game throughout.
