Concord Rangers 6 Stevenage XI 1

Pre Season Friendly, Tuesday 16th July 2013

I made a trip to the Aspect Arena this evening for Concord Rangers first pre season against a very youthful Stevenage XI side.   Concord flew out of the traps and put the young Stevenage side under immediate pressure.  The pressure finally told after 14 minutes when Tony Stokes put the home side ahead and it was 2-0 after 21 minutes through Paul Goodacre.   Concord were totally dominant and the away side couldn't get out of their own half for a lot of the half.  Alex Osborn put the home side further ahead on 32 minutes after being played clean through on goal.  Stevenage did manage to grab a goal three minutes before the break through a header from Jhai Dillion but Concord regained their three goal advantage a minute later with Stokes second goal of the game with a close range flick on from a free kick.   The second half was slightly more even as Concord's level dropped but this wasn't a surprise on a muggy warm evening.  Stevenage prodded away but couldn't find a second goal and then on 72 minutes Concord scored their fifth with their first real chance of the half when Jason Hallett tapped into an empty net following a defensive error.  Concord scored their sixth on 83 minutes with a wonderful strike from 25 yards from Ryan Carolan and could of added more late on but they failed to add the final touch.  But all in all Concord will be very happy with their first pre season run out although their will be tougher assignments in store down the road so lots of work still to do im sure.  A very enjoyable game to watch though on an excellent playing surface.
