Southend Manor U16s 0 Bowers & Pitsea U16s 1

EJA U16s Essex Division, Sunday 15th September 2013

Manor played their first league match at home and following last weeks 5-3 defeat at Thurrock were looking to bounce back from this.   The first half was a pretty even affair with Manor carving out the best opportunity with a close range header going over the bar but Bowers were playing the better football with their short pass and move style, normally a trait of Manor's game but they were struggling to pass the ball today.  As the second half went on the wind started to cause issues with the Manor keeper and it was from a kick out that the only goal came on 50 minutes.   One of these kicks caught in the wind and fell to the feet of an opposing player about 30 yards out.  He teed the ball up and let fly and it flew past the Manor keeper like a bullet, wind assisted, into the back of the net.  It was a bolt from the blue you could say.   Bowers did have the better of the first part of the second half but as the half wore on the home side began to play a little and put the back line of Bowers under increasing pressure.  Indeed the last 10-15 minutes was like this with the home side pressing for an equaliser but they could not force the equaliser and the away side held firm for a good away victory.   Manor will be bitterly disappointed with this defeat however and will try and bounce back next weekend.
