Sawbridgeworth Town 3 Southend Manor 2

Essex Senior League, Saturday 7th September 2013

Manor travelled to Sawbo today on what was 'Non League Day' and the hosts began the match the better of the two sides.  On 4 minutes Wappett cut inside the full back before hitting his shot straight at Priddle in the Manor goal.  On 6 minutes and another chance for the home side but forward Deamer could only head over when well placed.   Manor struggled to get any kind of foot on the ball and they almost went behind on 13 minutes when defender Longley's strike was tipped onto the inside of post by Priddle before bouncing back into the keepers arms.  The game entered a calmer period thereafter and it looked as though it would be goalless at the break.  However on 38 minutes a good run down the left wing ended with the ball being played into the box and it found its way to Mark Robinson who finished well past Priddle to gave Sawbo a 1-0 lead.   On 45 minutes a second goal came for the home side.   Manor's Dan Williams got in behind the defence but his ball in was poor and was cleared.   The ball found its way to Mark Robinson who ran from the half way line at the backline and he struck the ball from the edge of the area past Priddle for a good strike and 2-0 right on half time.   It was the least the home side deserved after a good first half showing from them.   The second half was only seven minutes old when a moment of controversy got Manor back into the game.   The ball went across Sawbo's penalty area towards Dan Williams who was about to put the ball into the empty net when he inadvertently kicked the defender's leg who had just poked the ball away but the referee pointed to the spot, much to everyone's amazement.   Tom Newell stepped up and put the penalty away via Selkirk's right hand for 2-1.   Manor then made a double change after that with Waiwaiku and Little being replaced by Sisson and Jamie Williams.   It was a much more even contest second half as Manor gradually worked their way back into the match.   On 69 minutes Sawbo got a free kick after Priddle collided with Deamer but Priddle made amends by saving well to his right to deny Cole.   Manor continued to threaten and on 77 minutes got the equaliser when Dan Williams was played through and he calmly slotted past Selkirk to make it 2-2.  Game on!!!   On 80 minutes Jamie Williams almost latched onto a through ball but keeper Selkirk just got there to clear the ball.   On 82 minutes Deamer headed just over the Sawbo following a corner kick.   Dan Williams had a good chance to put Manor in front on 88 minutes but after receiving the ball inside the box he swivelled and hit his shot but it was straight at Selkirk who saved comfortably.   A minute later and the winning goal for Sawbo.   A free kick was played in and full back Sam Zenone glanced a header on which took a deflection off Dan Williams and looped over Priddle and in for 3-2 to the home side.   Manor pressed but couldn't find the final ball and Sawbo held on for their first win of the season.
