Southend Manor 0 Great Wakering Rovers 2

Essex Senior League, Wednesday 2nd October 2013

This was part two of a double header over a week between Manor and Wakering and after last week's cracking nine goal thriller a crowd of 122 turned up to hopefully witness another belter.  The game started slowly however as both teams got themselves into the contest.   The first meaningful effort came on 20 minutes from the away side from last weeks six goal hero Gary Paterson but his powerful header was well kept out by Lawrence Priddle. On 25 minutes another Ex-Manor forward Aaron Baldwin's snap shot on the turn was saved comfortably by Priddle.   Manor had struggled to create anything up till this point but were far from outplayed as their was nothing between the two sides.   On 31 minutes Manor full back Max Drury, himself an Ex-Rovers player, had a long range effort but this flew well wide.   Manor were finishing the half well and on 40 minutes Manor forward Jamie Williams glanced a ball towards goal with his head but this was well saved by Wakering keeper Dale Brightly.  Right on half time Manor midfielder Tom Newell drove a free kick low and hard but just wide of Brightly's goal as the half ended 0-0.   It wasn't the greatest of half's in all honestly.   The away side made a change right at the start of the second half when player manager Dan Trenkel brought himself on replacing Baldwin and this seemed to help the away side as they started the half brightly.   Manor made their first change on 56 minutes when Chia-Titor was replaced by striker Casum Tiffin.   Wakering were doing all the pressing at this point and on the hour mark should of been ahead.   Ashley Hawkins got free in the box but his shot was brilliantly tipped wide by Priddle.   However on 64 minutes Wakering finally took the lead.   Hawkins again got free in the area and this time he finished past Priddle to put the away side 1-0 up.   Manor looked to hit back and ten minutes after the goal they almost levelled when Mark Sisson's effort was brilliantly saved by Brightly to keep the away side 1-0 ahead.   Manor brought on Charlie Little for Jamie Williams soon after this but it was Wakering who continued to do most of the attacking.   On 79 minutes and Dave Collins free kick was plucked out of the air by Priddle.   Manor made their final change on 80 minutes when Barv Waiwaiku was brought on for Joe Bright but a minute later Wakering had doubled their lead, the ball falling to Hawkins again around the penalty spot and he composed himself and finished with aplomb to Priddle's left to make it 2-0 to the away side.   Wakering closed out the game with relative ease as Manor fought as hard as they could but in the end the away side claimed the three points.   The first half was very even but Wakering went up a gear second half and deserved their victory.
