Southend Manor 2 White Ensign 0

Pre Season Friendly, Thursday 1st August 2013

Manor began their home pre season campaign at home to local Olympian League side White Ensign.   This was always going to have an competitive edge to it as some of Manor's side were ex ensign as well as our assistant being their former number one.   Ensign started the brighter and Manor struggled to get a foot hold in the game.  Manor did however create the first good chance but after the ball was played across the face of goal Rhys Fatt could only head wide.  Ensign produced a good chance midway through the half with a snapshot brilliantly tipped wide by Lawrence Priddle.  As the half wore on Manor started to stamp there authority on the game.  The best chance of the half fell to Luke Sands but his lob came back off the post and the follow up was cleared.  Manor were now creating openings but just could not find an end product as the half finished goalless.   The second half belonged to the home side.   Chances continued to come and go but good goalkeeping and defensive blocks kept the score at 0-0.  It was almost inevitable that Manor would break through and finally on 72 minutes they did just that.  Barv got free down the right and his cross shot was saved but the loose ball went across goal were Louis Houevio smashed home for 1-0.   Minutes later Churchman's 25 yard effort flew back off the Ensign bar as Manor pushed for a second goal.  This duly arrived on 82 minutes after Ash Pibworth brought the ball under control in a crowded penalty area and he beat one defender before finishing well past the onrushing keeper for 2-0.   Manor could of added more after this but finshing let them down.   Brad Williams was colossal all game and he nearly got the goal he deserved but after the ball was pulled back to him he hit his effort high and wide.   Ensign almost grabbed a consolation late on but a poor touch from the forward allowed Priddle to dive on the loose ball and avert the danger.   So Manor ran out confortable winners in the end and this was a good work out for them.
