Southend Manor 0 Sporting Bengal United 3

Essex Senior League, Saturday 10th August 2013

This match was delayed by 15 minutes due to Sporting arriving at 2.40pm due to traffic issues on the A13.   Not surprisingly Manor started the better and on 5 minutes Williams struck a decent effort at goal which was gathered well by Hartless in the Sporting goal.   On 18 minutes the best moment of the game up till that point.  Williams was played in on the right hand side of the box and his strike across the keeper was brilliantly saved one handed by Hartless.   On 25 minutes and Sporting's Pivano cut inside and his strike was saved well by Priddle in the Manor goal.   Two minutes later and the best chance of the match so far.  The ball was cut back from the byline across the face of goal to Casatano who was four yards out and with the goal at his mercy he tried to trap the ball but as he did this Priddle managed to get the ball clear.  It was a huge let off for the home side.   On 38 minutes Williams again tried his luck from the edge of the box it his effort was easily gathered by Hartless.   Two minutes later and Sporting's number ten Casatano stung the palms of Priddle and this proved the last chance of the half with the score at 0-0.   Manor again began the half well but it was Sporting who produced the first chance of the half when Casatano shrugged off Jude but his shot was well over the target.   On the hour mark Jude headed an effort straight at Hartless and then two minutes later Priddle produced a wonderful one handed save to deny the away side taking the lead.  On 75 minutes Manor forward Burrell's looping header was well saved by a back peddling Hartless.  Then with ten minutes to go the away side were awarded a penalty after a tug back in the box but Sporting's captain Ahmed's spot kick was brilliantly saved by Priddle to his right hand side.  Manor immediately broke and Danso was played in and he rounded Hartless and scored only to be denied by the offside flag.   With the game seemingly heading for a draw Sporting struck a double blow.   First on 85 minutes Pivaro struck into the bottom left hand corner past Priddle from 12 yards out for 0-1 and then a minute later with Manor all over the place captain Ahmed popped up to amend for his penalty miss to make it 0-2.  With a minute left that man Casatano slid the ball past Priddle to make it 0-3.   So Manor well beaten in the end and a disappointing start to the campaign for the home side.
