Southend Manor 1 Basildon United 2

FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Replay, Wednesday 21st August 2013

The Manor entertained their near neighbours Basildon United in a replay following Saturday's pulsating 2-2 draw at The Cohart Stadium.   The first chance fell to the home side on 16 minutes when Kye Jude found himself in the six yard box with the goal in front of him but he couldn't keep his effort down and the ball went over.   On 24 minutes Terry Martin, who scored a cracking goal for The Bees on Saturday, struck a free kick straight at Manor keeper Priddle.   Immediately after this Greg Akpele, a constant thorn in the Manor defence, had two efforts on goal as the away side started to press a little.   On 32 minutes the home side had another chance when Manor winger Waiwaiku found himself in a good position but could only hit his effort over the bar.   But just one minute later and the home side went in front.  Mark Sisson was played through on goal and his first effort was saved by Brown but the ball bounced off Brown onto Sisson's leg and then back past Brown for a goal to give Manor a 1-0 lead.   Manor had their tails up at this stage and went to look to double that advantage before half time.   However a moment of brilliance levelled this tie once again. On 42 minutes the ball was played into Isaac Aubynn's feet and he someone hooked the ball over his marker Kye Jude and went around him and ran onto the ball and smashed it past Priddle with a rocket like shot for 1-1.   The home side were stunned.   Half time came and it was 1-1 so still nothing to separate the sides at this stage.   Manor came out second half and on 47 minutes created another opening but this time Yaw Danso's effort yet again went over the bar.   The game was going end to end as both teams created openings but no goals came.   On 60 minutes Manor wasted another good opportunity as Mark Sisson dribbled into the box and layed the ball square to Waiwaiku but after he cut back onto his left side his shot was weak and straight at Brown.  Manor were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal two minutes later.  A long ball over the Manor backline was ceased upon by that man Akpele and as Priddle came out of goal to close the angle down Akpele knocked it past him and the ball rolled into the net to give the away side a 2-1 advantage.   On 67 minutes Manor created and missed another good chance.  Yaw Danso's jinking run ended with him squaring the ball to James Braithwaite but his effort was straight at Brown from all of 12 yards out.   On 77 minutes Braithwaite limped off injured and was replaced by Liam Jarrett.   Manor made two more substitutes on 83 minutes when Ash Pibworth and Jamie Williams, the latter had just been booked for a foul, were replaced by Darren Burrell and 16 year old Charlie Little, who made a good impression when he came on Saturday.   On 86 minutes Akpele's long ranger was deflected just wide of the Manor goal.   Manor were now sending people forward in search of the goal that would take the tie into extra time and on 90 minutes another free kick was pumped into the box but Kye Jude could only hook the loose ball over the bar.  The referee blew his whistle soon after and Manor had been edged out in what was at times a scrappy contest.
