Bowers & Pitsea 4 Haverhill Rovers 0

FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round, Saturday 4th October 2014

Bowers & Pitsea scored four goals for the second successive Vase game to book their place in the first round proper of the competition at the expense of Thurlow Nunn Premier side Haverhill Rovers.  Bowers dominated the first half hour and during this took the lead on 12 minutes when a ball laid back to the edge of the area was drilled home by Ross Adams.  Haverhill came back into the tie after this although it was Bowers who ended the half on a bright note when they doubled the lead thanks to Lewis Manor, diverting a pin point free kick by Jamie Salmon past keeper Tom Coombe who had no chance.  Rovers came out second half with the bit between their teeth and had the better of the game for a lot of the second half although they had no end product as well as Bowers defending well too.  On 86 minutes the tie was killed off when a break out from Bowers found substitute Tom Hine one on one with Tom Coombe and Hine rounded the keeper before eventually placing the ball into the net.  There was still time for Bowers to put more gloss on the scoreline when Vinny Durrant's cross was finished off by another substitute Stuart Fergus in stoppage time to send Bowers through.  4-0 probably flattered Bowers somewhat but they deserved to win the game no doubt.
