Hutton Reserves 4 Collier Row 1

Essex Olympian League Division Three, Wednesday April 21

Wednesday night and another trip to Polo Fields to watch Hutton Reserves at home for the second week in a row, and this time they welcomed Collier Row in another Essex Olympian Division Three contest and saw goals from Jim Gardner, Carl Dutton, Matthews Price and Tom Price help Hutton to a third straight win.

This was sixth against fourth in the table and a win for the hosts this evening would see them leapfrog their opponents and go into fourth spot on goal difference, whilst a win for the visitors would see them level on points with third placed Wakebury and only five points off the top of the division.

Hutton’s form following the restart on April 3rd had been fairly good, three wins and just the one defeat in their four outings, with their last two games yielding three goals for and none conceded with both of those coming here at Polo Fields, whilst Collier Row had played three times and after winning at Leigh Town Reserves they were beaten 6-3 at Wakebury and then 1-0 at Basildon Town Reserves, who Hutton beat 1-0 at home last Wednesday.

Form then suggested a Hutton win, but it was still likely to be a decent game and an important one at that, so who would come out on top in this one?

Midway through the first period and Hutton got themselves in front when a ball to the near post was fumbled by the keeper and Jim Gardner was quickest to react to eventually fire the ball home from close range, but Row got themselves level five minutes later when a corner from the right was finished off from close range by skipper Brandon Nicholson.

It was Hutton who retook the lead though with around ten minutes of the first half remaining as Carl Dutton managed to get in on the left-hand side of the box and slot beyond the keeper with a decent finish, and it meant the hosts would go into the half time break with a slender lead.

The visitors had two golden chances to level up inside the opening fifteen minutes of the second period but on both occasions were thwarted by the hosts keeper, although if truth be told Row should have buried them both, they were both guilt edged chances and poor finishing really let them down.

Hutton themselves also had chances to increase their lead too and just past the hour mark they did just that when Matthew Price sent an opportunist effort at goal from quite a way out from the far touchline after seeing the keeper off his line, and it sailed over a scrambling keeper who could only help the ball into the net, the linesman had flagged prior to that just before for an infringement but the referee played on and the goal was given.  There were not too many complaints from the visitors either to be honest.

Thereafter Hutton took control and could have added more goals, they did manage another with fifteen minutes to go when Tom Price converted a free kick into the mixer from his brother Matthew, but despite more chances the hosts were unable to add to their tally but took a third straight win and moved up to fourth in the table on goal difference, leapfrogging their opponents in the process.

Here is the Division Three table after tonight’s result…

That win for Hutton sees them edging ever closer to those promotion places now, Row are still in the fight too despite a third straight loss. Hutton have another home game at the weekend when they welcome bottom side Leigh Town Reserves to Polo Fields, you would expect them to make it four straight wins, whilst Collier Row have a very tough game against league leaders ACD United at Forest Row Centre, they will have their work cut out to prevent it being four straight defeats for them, but we will see. Below are the fixtures for Division Three on Saturday…

Buckhurst Hill Reserves v Lakeside United

Collier Row v ACD United

Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ v Manford Way Reserves

Hutton Reserves v Leigh Town Reserves

Basildon Town Reserves v Wakebury

Toby Reserves v Corinthians Reserves
