Southend Manor Reserves 4 Thurrock U18s 2

Pre Season Friendly, Saturday 17th August 2013

Manor's ressies played their final pre season match agaist a decent Thurrock U18 side on Saturday morning on the 3g pitch at Playfootball Southend.   The first half was a very even affair with Thurrock limited to some long range efforts and Manor creating a couple of good chances through Thomas Roberts but the half arrived with no goals to show.   The second half was a different story however.   On 53 minutes Manor made the break through.  Rhys Fatt beared down on goal and he rounded the keeper then checked back past a defender before smashing the ball home for 1-0.   Two minutes later Thurrock levelled.  The ball was played into the box were Rob Rushton, Manor's keeper, and the Thurrock forward went into a challenge and the ball came off Rushton onto the Thurrock player and it bounced past Rushton into the goal.   On 69 minutes and Manor re took the lead.   After a shot on goal the rebound fell to Louis Hounvio who lifted the ball brilliantly over the keeper for 2-1.   Six minutes later and Manor made it 3-1.   Bobby Jones flicked on a long ball and then ran onto the ball and with the keeper advancing lifted it expertly over him into the goal via the inside of the post.   79 minutes and Manor made it 4-1.   Thomas Roberts was played through and he slid the ball past the onrushing keeper.   Thurrock did put some pressure on the Manor goal in the last few mins and they grabbed a consolation on 88 minutes but Manor ran out winners in what was a cracking game of football.
