Pre Season Friendly, Sunday 4th August 2013
I went over to the Ford Sports & Social Grounds in Basildon to see my mates side Southchurch AFC take on New Basildon Revolution in a friendly game. Southchurch were looking to step up there pre season preparations and this was billed as a step up in level against a decent revolution side. And they more than held there own in the first half a created the better chances but it was the home side who took the lead on 39 minutes when after the defender dived in on the winger and the winger got free his ball across the box was headed in giving Andy Smith in the Southchurch goal no chance. Both teams continued to show good pass and movement and touch and Revolution looked to have sealed the deal when they went 2-0 up from a deflected effort. Southchurch to their credit fought there way back into the contest and got a goal back through Blackshaw on 64 minutes heading in a rebound from the keeper after a shot from outside the box. Revolution hit the bar soon after that as they tried to regain a two goal advantage. However the away side levelled the match at 2-2 on 76 minutes from a great side footed shot from Privett from 20 yards into the bottom corner. It was the least Southchurch deserved in all honesty. Revolution did have two good chances towards the end, one effort hitting the woodwork again and the other was a shot from 12 yards brilliantly tipped over by Southchurch stopper Andy Smith. So the match finished a draw which was probably a fair result but it was a very good watch indeed.
