FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round, Saturday 17th August 2013
This was Manor's second local derby in four days and they were slow to start as the home side started the better with Manor's backline being put under pressure from the Basildon forward line of Aubynn and Akpele. The latter screwing an effort wide in the first ten minutes from inside the box. On ten minutes Manor forward Jamie Williams got a sight of goal in the away sides first foray forward but his effort was well saved by Basildon stopper Glanville. Then the breakthrough on 13 miuntes and it was the away side who got it. Brad Williams corner was headed back out to him and he curled a great cross to the backpost were it eluded everyone apart from James Braithwaite who slid in to poke the ball into the net for 0-1. It didn't take long for the home side to level however. Basildon defender Terry Martin picked the ball up and ran forward and then let fly with a 25 yard effort which swerved in the air and into the top corner of Priddle's net for a brilliant goal to make it 101. On 31 minutes Basildon almost took the lead only to be denied by a great save by Priddle and then Manor broke up the other end through Danso but his shot was weak and easily gathered by Glanville. On 40 minutes Akpele's free kick was tipped over the bar by Priddle. It looked as though the teams would go in at the half level but right on half time Basildon took the lead. Manor failed to clear the ball from the danger area and it fell to Tom Cocklin who drove the ball across Priddle into the corner for 2-1. Manor made a change at start of second half where Churchill Chia-Titor was replaced by Tom Newell. The game entered a lull as both sides tried to get back into the contest. On 59 minutes Brad Williams limped off with a dead leg to be replaced by Luke Sands. This nearly paid dividends on 64 minutes as Luke Sand's bobbling effort was tipped round the post by Glanville and from the resulting corner the ball was cleared off the line. On 71 minutes Basildon broke out and sent Tyler Hayes free down the left but his effort was straight at Priddle. Manor made their third and final change as Jamie Williams went off with a gash in his head to be replaced by 16 year old Charlie Little. On 82 minutes a great chance for Manor to level as Danso got clear of the defence but his effort was dragged wide. Four minutes later and Manor did level the tie. Danso's corner was glanced on by Mark Sisson and past the defender and keeper for 2-2. Manor were rampant now and causing Basildon all kinds of problems and with a minute to go Danso had a golden chance but miskicked after the ball was cut back to him in the box and then the best chance of them all fell to Charlie Little on 90 minutes but after checking back and no keeper in the goal fired just over. The 16 year old, who was making his debut for the first team, did cause the defence all kinds of problems when he came on so lots of credit has to go to him for how he handled himself out there today. The full time whistle brought this tie to a close and a replay will be required now on Wednesday night at The Southchurch Arena to see who will play Heybridge Swifts in the next round.
