Concord Rangers 3 St Albans City 0

Pre Season Friendly, Tuesday 23rd July 2013

Concord Rangers made it three wins from three pre season matches with a 3-0 success over Southern Premier St Albans City this evening.   The first half was a good battle with both teams giving as good as they got and there was not a lot between the two sides as chances were hard to come by.   It looked as though the first half would end goalless until Leon Gordon got in behind the St Albans defence to lift the ball over the onrushing Bastock in the 43rd minute to give the home side a 1-0 half time lead.   Concord upped the tempo in the second half and started to dominate proceedings somewhat.   Concord grabbed their second goal on 51 minutes thanks to two defensive errors allowing Tony Stokes in on goal and after he checked back onto his left foot his shot deflected off the defender over Bastock and in via the underside of the bar.   St Albans were struggling to live with the Blue Square South side at this stage and it was no surprise when the home side made it 3-0 on 68 minutes through that man Tony Stokes again.   Substitute Jason Hallett shrugged off his marker to look Bastock in the eyes and after the keeper parried Hallett's effort Stokes was there to tidy up and smash home from six yards out.   Thereafter St Albans did create a couple of half chances through Frendo who is more than a useful acquisition for the Hertfordshire side but Concord held firm and ran out 3-0 winners against a good St Albans team.
