Canvey Island 0 Concord Rangers 4

Pre Season Friendly, Friday 19th July 2013

Friday night footie on the Island was tonights game as the two island teams Canvey Island and Concord Rangers took to the field of battle to raise money for both Indee Rose Trust and Danny Green's Fund.  A good turnout of 510 witnessed anything but a friendly in the first half as both teams got stuck in.   Canvey actually began the better of the two teams but it was Concord who took the lead on 18 minutes from a great header from Steve King.   Two minutes later and Gary Ogilvie burst into the box and finished past the keeper for 2-0 and there after Concord dominated proceedings and were a class above their neighbours it has to be said.  The second half continued in much the same fashion with Concord giving their neighbours the run around.   Jason Hallett then won Concord a penalty on 53 minutes which was duly dispatched by Danny Glozier for 3-0.   The fourth goal came on 78 minutes and after a brilliant one touch move which cut the home side to shreds Jacob Cleaver finished past the home keeper at his near post.   Canvey are no slouches and will no doubt be challenging towards the top of the Ryman Premier this season but Concord were really a class above them and will be a tough side to beat in the Blue Square South this season.   As I walked past the changing rooms on my way out I heard the Concord team singing away 'WE ARE CONCORD' etc etc showing how much this win meant to them!!!   Derby win's it seems are important whatever the status of the game and Concord are right now the kings of the island no doubt.
