Hullbridge Sports 0 Southend Manor 0

Essex Senior League, Thursday 10th April 2014

The game started in a frenetic manor, a typical local derby, as both teams looked to stamp their authority on the match. Manor had the first real opening when after a ball into the box was half dealt with Nick Read could only steer his first time effort over the bar.
Hullbridge then begun to slowly work up some pressure on Manor and created a couple of chances of their own but found Manor stopper Lawrence Priddle, ex Hullbridge of course, in fine fettle and he kept them out on both occasions. Charlie Little then had a good chance for Manor when poor defensive play allowed Little a run into the box from the left hand side but as he turned and hooked the ball past the onrushing Hullbridge keeper Ryan Smith the ball curled away from goal and just wide. Priddle then had to be on his toes to keep Hullbridge at bay a couple more times and just before the half a good run by Manor’s Nick Read resulted in a cross cum shot which Smith tipped away from danger. The half time whistle then sounded to end a pretty quick tempo derby with the score 0-0. The second half was just as frenetic, a testament to both sides considering the amount of games they had played recently.  Hullbridges best moment of the half came from centre back Perry Dunn, who swivelled and hit an absolute rasper of a shot just over the target with Priddle well beaten. In fact if it wasn’t for a slight touch of a defender than it may well have nestled in the top corner. Hullbridge headed a couple of free headers over from corners too as they looked to pile on the pressure. Priddle was immense coming for the ball into the box, time and again punching clear and catching under pressure. Manor did have their attacks as well though, and their best one came from a breakout but Little’s ball across the goal failed to find a Manor player and the chance was gone. As time winded down Hullbridge had one final chance when a ball over the defence from Perry Dunn to Rob Hodgson almost worked but sadly the forward couldn’t quite reach it and it sailed out for a goal kick.
