Bowers returned to league action on Tuesday night with a home game against Sawbridgeworth Town at their adopted home of Concord Rangers Aspect Arena stadium as the Pitsea sides pitch wasn’t up to scratch.
Bowers of course were sitting in seventh spot but due to their Vase heroics plus postponed league games in the last couple of months or so have almost a dozen games in hand on others above. The visiting Robins sat six points and two places above the hosts prior to kick off so a tight encounter was expected.
The game was delayed till 8pm due to problems on the M25 holding up the visitors a touch and when the game did eventually kick off a bizarre moment saw the game halted for a couple of minutes after the referee noticed their were no corner flags in place and saw a Bowers official scamper off into the clubhouse before appearing with the illusive flags and handing them to four Bowers players who with a flag each run into each corner to place the flag where it should of been. It was a truly bizarre moment I must say.
Anyway once the game did get going the first chance fell to the hosts and saw Luke Wilson slice an effort goalwards and saw the keeper tip onto the bar before down the other end five minutes later the ever dangerous winger in Mitchell Das cut inside and whipped a decent effort at hosts the goal but Martin Guest was right behind it and made a comfortable save.
On 17 minutes Alfie Hilton almost got in for the hosts but saw the visiting keeper just get to the ball before the Bowers winger nicked the ball beyond him and then two minutes later Hilton again threatened as he cut inside onto his left foot but saw his effort deflected through to the keeper before down the other end Sawbo broke into the box through George Wappett but his effort was well blocked.
Just past the midway point of the half a long ball from Jamie Stevens saw Lewis Manor almost poke home past a hesitant keeper who had come to claim the ball but the defender covering behind managed to clear his lines and then on 27 minutes a long throw into the Sawbo area saw Wilson flick across the six yard box but no one gambled so the chance went.
Just before the half hour mark though Bowers did take the lead when another Wilson flick across goal saw debutant full back Elliot Vile tap home at the far post and then a minute later it was two for Bowers as a ball forward saw Lewis Manor challenge the keeper who had come way out to clear and the forward won the challenge and slotted into the empty net to give the hosts control of this match.
Five minutes after this hosts midfielder Aaron Russell produced a superb last ditch tackle to prevent Das a clear route to goal. If he had got that wrong it would have surely been a red card but it was a super challenge and typified the hosts workrate in this game. Five minutes before half time a good move from the hosts resulted in a snap shot being saved by the keeper before moments later a long range effort flew a foot wide of the hosts goal up the other end.
However Bowers were to end the half in style when they made it three a minute before the break when a ball laid into the path of Chris Bryan saw him thump an effort home from the edge of the box and saw the hosts go into the break with a commanding lead.

Any half time team talk from the visiting manager Mark Das went out of the window within a minute of the restart as Vile pulled off his marker and smacked an effort across the keeper and into the far corner for the hosts fourth. It really was far too easy for the hosts if truth be told and on 57 minutes a great corner from Stevens saw Vile totally free inside the area but he missed ball and saw his hat trick goal chance vanish.
Just past the hour mark Vile again had a chance to grab his treble as the ball fell to him inside the area but he hit his effort over the bar. With just over twenty minutes to go the hosts saw a header just go over the bar as the game had taken on a training match feel for the hosts as they were very very comfortable at this stage.
Sawbo’s frustrations almost got the better of them with just under twenty minutes left when a poor tackle saw an eventual yellow card when some other referee’s may have given a red. It was totally out of character for the game as a whole though. Moments after this a long ball saw the visitors in behind but the resultant effort was way off target and then with just over fifteen minutes left the hosts made it five when Bryan chased down the keeper and blocked his clearance into the path of substitute Rob Whitnell who had the simple job of tapping into the gaping goal.
Moments later the visitors almost got in but saw the Bowers defence just scramble the ball clear and then it was six for the home side when awful hesitant defending from the visitors allowed another substitute in the shape of Ashley Wackers Kyriacou to waltz in and slot home with simplicity. It really was far too easy for the home side at times.
The visitors got in behind the hosts defence with ten minutes left but again the eventual effort was miles off target but they then won a spot kick after a foul, but in keeping with the way the evening had gone, saw the spot kick saved by Guest. The visitors were enjoying a good spell of pressure by this stage but at six goals down it was a bit late for that.
With two minutes left Bowers full back Scott Pethers went on an attacking run and cut inside before unleashing an effort from twenty five yards, forcing the keeper to tip wide smartly but he could do nothing to prevent a seventh goal for the hosts a minute later when after the ball looped up into the air and down in front of goal, that man Vile was there to tap over the line for a debut hat-trick and complete the scoring in this one.
Sawbo did test Guest with a long range effort soon after but they were well beaten on the night and probably wished they were still stuck in traffic on the motorway after this performance. For Bowers though it was a thoroughly decent performance and sees them take the points.
