Hullbridge Sports 2 Sawbridgeworth Town 0

Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy Semi Final, Wednesday 7th May 2014

So my ninth game in ten tiring days took me to Lower Road and a semi final between Hullbridge and Sawbridgeworth.  Sports had a rare stat over most others as they had done the double over Sawbo during the league season so would of been understandably confident going into this one.  Sports started well and on 6 minutes after a mad scramble in the six yard box Rob Hodgson got his foot on the ball to poke over the line.  Sawbo were not themselves and probably already on their holiday's as they rarely tested keeper Mason, apart from a few punches clear from crosses.  Sports added a second goal six minutes into the second half when a free kick from Sam Taylor was parried out by keeper Selkirk were Rob Lacey was quickest to react to poke the rebound home.  Sawbo did lay siege to Hullbridge's goal for the last twenty or so minutes but just could not find a way through.  Their frustrations were clear for all to see and this came to a head in stoppage time when Mitchel Das made an appalling challenge on Rob Lacey and was rightly sent off by referee Martin Osborne, ending a miserable night for the visitors.  Hullbridge will now play in the final next Tuesday against Haringey Borough.
