A Lubona Wyatt brace
helped Newbury Forest to a comprehensive win over Fire United Christian in a
bottom two clash at The Terrence McMillan Stadium in Newham, a result which saw
the hosts replace their opponents at the foot of the Thurlow Nunn Eastern
Senior South.
This was billed as a huge game, with the hosts sitting a
point above their visiting opponents in second bottom, and both knew that a win
could take them out of the bottom two altogether, so the incentive was there
for all.
Sadly for the hosts they had a bare eleven for this one, and
even had their manager playing, such was the need for players, and with no
physio either it really was a sad state of affairs for the hosts. And with less then a dozen people inside the
ground for kick off, not much in the way of support either.
Forest were on the front foot from the off and fired the
first attempt of the match just wide of the goal, before another chance for the
visitors saw a header brilliantly saved by the keeper, who was certainly making
himself heard in the back-line.
Forest then sent another header straight at the keeper, but
in the 19th minute did break the deadlock when after a defender made
a mess of incepting a ball across the edge of the area, Remi Nelson clipped a
lovely effort into the far corner and Forest had a deserved lead.
The visitors then struck wide as they looked for a quick
second, and they thought they had found it when they converted a ball into the
box, but the linesman’s flag had gone up for offside so the goal did not stand.
A decent effort from range from the visitors was well saved
by the keeper, before a good mazy run almost saw Forest in again, but the ball
was overrun through to the keeper who gathered bravely at the feet of
them. Fire, who had created nothing
going forward, did send in a decent cross but this was flicked away by a
defender before the hosts could get an effort at goal.
Fire then managed to get into a decent shooting position,
only to see the effort wayward and in no way troubling the keeper whatsoever,
before down the other end another Forest chance, which came about from more
defensive woes, saw a final effort saved by a scrambling keeper who just about
got back into his goal to save.
The hosts then had a free-kick in a very good position, but
the effort was awful and easy for the keeper, before a long-range effort from
Fire was again easy for the keeper as it lacked no power at all.
And then four minutes before the break Forest doubled their
advantage, which was the least they deserved, as Wyatt got in behind to finish
into the roof of the net, and the visitors had a two-goal lead to take into the
break.

Forest were again straight on the front foot at the start of
the second period, and almost saw a forward ball release them in on goal, but
the ball was slightly over-hit and the keeper came to gather, but they did make
it three just three minutes into the half when a ball headed back across goal
was tapped in at the far post by Wyatt for his second of the contest, and the
game was as good as done you thought.
It should have been four as a great ball in was headed over
the top, and you felt if they wanted to the visitors could go on and score a
hatful here, such was their dominance.
And the visitors then won a penalty after being bundled over
inside the box, but the penalty was saved by the keeper so it remained 0-3 to
the visitors, and then the hosts attacked but saw the ball eventually go out
for a goal-kick. It had been a poor
showing from the hosts in this one in what was such a big game.
Fire then sent an effort goalwards but it was straight at
the keeper, before a defensive block thwarted the home side and then down the
other end Forest got in again but the final effort was miles off target.
The visitors were being rather sloppy in this period of the
game, and they almost gifted the hosts a goal back into the contest when twice
they failed to clear and it ended with the hosts trying to round the keeper to
slot home, but the keeper managed to save, with the hosts claiming a penalty
for a foul, which was quickly waved away by the referee.
Forest though were soon back attacking and they were given
all the time in the world to send a cross into the back post where it was
headed well off target, before another Forest effort was sent well over the bar
after a cut-back had found them totally unmarked in the penalty area.
Comical defending from the hosts almost saw the visitors in
on goal, but a foul from the attackers saved the hosts on this occasion, and
then down the other end Fire got into a good shooting position, only to send it
miles off target once again.
Another golden chance for the visitors saw the ball fired
over the bar, if they had had their shooting boots on in this one it could have
been many more for the Oakside outfit.
The hosts almost found a goal back when a ball into the
Forest area caused confusion before being poked wide, before another Forest
cross into the box saw a weak header go straight at the keeper.
With six minutes left though, Forest did find a fourth goal
when a ball to the far side of the box found Jason Reynolds-Blanche totally
free, and he swept home an emphatic volley, and then Fire did try and find a
consolation but two terrific defensive blocks thwarted them from achieving this.
Forest then saw a volley at goal blocked, before the visitors
breezed into the box and with two players waiting for a cut-back, the ball was
played straight at a defender who cleared the danger.
It mattered not though as Forest ran out comfortable
winners, and they leapfrog their opponents and Brightlingsea Regent Reserves
into third bottom, whilst Fire now prop up the division after this poor day at
the office.
