Bostick League side Northwood and Evo-Stik Southern
King’s Langley battled out a fiercely competitive goalless draw at Cheshunt
Avenue in their Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie, meaning a replay on
Tuesday night in Hertfordshire.
The hosts were going into this as underdogs as they one were
step below King’s Langley although the visitors hadn’t started their league
campaign to well, so the hosts felt they could give it a shot as they say.
The opening exchanges saw the hosts go close first of all
when James Ewington had a good sight of goal but could only send his effort
over the bar, whilst down the other end Mitchell Weiss went close a couple of
times for the visitors, and then Rene Howe, the ex-football league player, fired
an effort just wide of the far post.
Weiss then had the next opening, but could only scuff an
effort straight at hosts keeper Luke Sheldrick, and then visiting full back Callum
Adebiyi headed over a decent chance at the back post. It was a good competitive game though and the
hosts were more than competing in this one.
This showed again when Ewington had another decent sight of
goal, only to see visiting keeper Steve Bourke beat away his effort, and right at
the end of the half Adebiyi headed a visitors free-kick against the hosts bar,
and that was the closest anyone had come to scoring in this one, but the game
remained goalless as we reached the break.

The second half was an hour old when the first goal mouth
action came along and it came in a decent period for the hosts as Sam Jenkins
sent a ball into the box and it almost ended up catching keeper Bourke out, but
he managed to tip the ball onto the bar and over.
Langley then sent a terrific cross to the backpost and if
anyone had gambled on it they would have surely converted the cross, however
the ball bounced right across goal and away from danger, and the hosts breathed
a sigh of relief.
But it was the visitors who were breathing a sigh of relief
after that when the hosts attacked down the left and a ball sent across saw
visiting defender Jorell Johnson stretch to try and cut out the cross, only to
divert the ball onto the near post, see the ball bounce back out and hit the
defender, who was still sliding, and away from danger. It was a very fortunate moment for the visitors
indeed.
The final fifteen minutes though saw the visitors create
three terrific chances, firstly when Dean Hitchcock sent a free-kick just wide
of the post, before centre half Max Ryan headed a free-kick wide of the target
when he really should of scored.
And then with Northwood still going for it as well deep deep
into stoppage time, Langley broke and almost nicked it at the death when Johnson
found himself with just the keeper to beat, that was until a last ditch block by
a recovering defender thwarted him, and it meant the game ended goalless and a
replay will now take place on Tuesday.
