Essex Senior League Premier Division, Wednesday 8th August 2018
Second half goals from Sotoyinbo and Spencer gave Hullbridge Sports a derby win over Southend Manor in the Essex Senior League Premier Division on Wednesday evening.
The hosts came into this one off the back of an opening day victory over Enfield, whilst Sports had drawn at home to Barkingside in their opening game, so both were looking to preserve their unbeaten starts to the campaign.
Manor began well and almost had the lead after five minutes when Linfield cut inside and hit a good effort at goal which keeper Marsh brilliantly beat away, and then moments later Marsh had to make another decent stop from a point blank header from Linfield, before the resulting corner went wide.
And then in the 9th minute Manor won a penalty after Linfield went down inside the area, but Marsh thwarted them again, saving Hirst's penalty to keep his side on parity.
The visitors thereafter managed to creep back into the contest and just past the half hour mark whistled a free-kick over the hosts bar, and then six minutes before half time were screaming for a spot kick however the referee decided no penalty was the outcome.
It meant that the game ended goalless at the break with the visitors, who had started so poorly, ending the half on the front foot.

The visitors continued where they had left off at the end of the first period by taking the lead two minutes into the second half after winning a penalty, and Sotoyinbo stepped up to convert the penalty despite Catling getting a big hand on it, and the visitors had got their noses in front.
The visitors pressed for a quick second and almost found it moments later but saw a header deflect just wide, and then eight minutes into the half Hornsley struck a brilliant effort only to see if thump against the inside of Manor's post and eventually see it cleared.
Two minutes later Manor suddenly had a deflected effort fly over the visitors goal, although the defending side were up in arms claiming it had come off a Manor player last, but they were jumping for joy just past the hour mark when they doubled their lead as great work from Sotoyinbo saw him square to Spencer who converted first time beyond Catling, and the visitors were in total control.
A long ball from Manor keeper Catling in the 70th minute eventually fell to substitute Fatt, however his first time effort went wide, and with nine minutes remaining Manor attacked down the right and the ball across was flicked towards goal but it was easy for Marsh who gathered.
Sports almost sealed it with seven minutes remaining when Hornsley saw a cross almost turned into his own net by a defender, however they never looked in danger of not winning this one and ran out fairly comfortable winners in the end to pick up their first three points of the season.
