Billericay Town 5 Lowestoft Town 0

Bostick Premier Division, Tuesday 13th February 2018

Attacking midfielder Sam Deering inspired Billericay Town to a comfortable victory over Lowestoft Town at New Lodge to send the hosts four points clear at the top of the Bostick Premier Division.

Lowestoft arrived in South Essex having never lost to their opponents at New Lodge however it was a different situation this time round than those before with the visitors only six points above the bottom relegation place occupied by Burgess Hill Town.

The hosts were therefore favourites to take the points and extend their lead at the top and three minutes into the contest found the breakthrough when Adam Cunnington dug out a cross from the right and saw Deering run onto it and send a powerful header into the far corner of the net.

In the eleventh minute Deering came close to doubling the home sides lead when he was laid in by Billy Bricknell however the former’s effort was well blocked, and then six minutes later Jamie O’Hara saw an effort curl just over the visitors bar.

And midway through the half Ricky Modeste laid the ball off to Bricknell however the latter’s effort flew off target, but the hosts had certainly dominated the opening exchanges.
However after this initial burst from the hosts, Lowestoft started to find their feet a little, and in the 27th minute so nearly found a leveller but saw their effort saved well by Alan Julian in the Billericay goal.

Seven minutes before half time the hosts saw Jake Robinson get in down the right, but with no one to cross to he instead went for goal but saw his effort saved at the near post, meaning the half ended with Deering’s goal seperating the sides.

The hosts had dominated the opening exchanges however the visitors had come back into the contest as the half had gone on.

Billericay brought on Sanchez Watt for the second half and he immediately posed a threat, seeing an effort well saved, but in the 49th minute the Bluesdoubled their lead when a corner found Danny Waldren who rifled home a first time effort to give the hosts a perfect start to the second period.

In the 56th minute Watt’s cross found it’s way to Deering whose effort back across goal went just wide of the far post, but five minutes later they made it three when after Deering’s free kick had almost crept in, the loose ball spooned up into the air and saw Bricknell nod over the line and increase the leaders lead to three.

Two minutes later and with the hosts rampant now Bricknell burst down the right hand side but fired a decent effort wide of the near post, however in the 69th minute it was four when Deering burst through and slotted home his second of the contest. The midfielder had been superb in this contest.

And just three minutes later Deering turned provider again, this time laying in Robinson to slot home the hosts fifth, and at this stage you feared for Lowestoft as they looked beaten and inept of ideas as to how to keep the hosts from scoring at will.

However a combination of the hosts probably dropping their tempo slightly and the visitors mantle of plugging away meant the away side started to see a bit more of the ball, and in a rare attack with thirteen minutes remaining saw a mad scramble inside the hosts box end with a clearence, before a cross back into the area was fielded by Julian.

With eight minutes left hosts full back Joe Kizzi tried his luck from range but saw the effort skim a foot wide of the far post, and in the first minute of stoppage time Robinson twisted and turned his marker before he saw his effort blocked, before the following effort was well saved.

But the hosts had already done enough to comfortably win this one, and despite the visitors plugging away for certain periods were not a match for a superb Billericay side, led as I said by the brilliant Deering. The hosts now go four points clear at the top with five games in hand whereas the visitors slip a place to 20th and remain six points above the drop zone.
