Tower Hamlets 0 Sporting Bengal United 0

Essex Senior League, Monday 3rd October 2016

Monday night and it was ‘Part Deux’ of the Mile End Derby as Tower Hamlets took onSporting Bengal United in what was already an important bottom of the table clash in theEssex Senior League.
The previous meeting this season had seen Hamlets net a stoppage time winner in a 2-1 win in a pretty subdued derby it had to be said. Therefore many were expecting this one to be more feisty and battle hardened, given the importance of the contest.
The hosts had the first chance of the contest and it was a great chance too as Joel Ramos pounced on a defensive slip to go clean in on goal but Sporting keeper Denzel Kobia managed to make a decent save although the Hamlets forward should of done better by all accounts.
Sporting created their first effort on goal on the quarter hour mark when Bobby Redwood almost nipped in after hesitant Hamlets defending but keeper Carl Duggas-During came to narrow the angle and blocked the effort. Apart from these two openings though the opening exchanges were fairly quiet.
The game was being played at a decent tempo at least and saw the next moment see Sporting fire one a foot wide from outside the box as the ‘visitors’ were just edging the contest so far and on the half hour mark more hesitant defending almost allowed Sporting in but again keeper Duggas-During blocked the effort and keep the scoreline goal less.
Chances were limited in a fairly subdued derby it has to be said, but any that were coming along were from Sporting and they saw a close range effort deflect just wide of the hosts goal but although the visitors had the better openings that came along, it wasn’t a great spectacle overall so far.
Half Time Tower Hamlets 0 Sporting Bengal United 0
The opening ten minutes saw a Hamlets effort deflected over the Sporting bar but apart from that nothing else had happened in the half as it started very slowly indeed. The next twenty or so minutes yielded very little as the game became an even poorer spectacle and the only noteworthy chances saw the visitors strike an effort wide from the edge of the area and then the Hosts almost got in on goal but saw a last ditch tackle prevent a strike at goal.
However on 64 minutes came a huge chance for Sporting but saw an overhead kick well saved by keeper Duggas-During before he got up to save the follow up, see two more efforts blocked before the hosts finally saw Mark Wheeler‘s effort sail high and wide or the target, as Hamlets breathed a sigh of relief.
Hamlets barely tested Sporting keeper Kobia was hardly tested in the second period although had to be alert to field a powerful long range rocket from the home side although it went straight down Kobia’s throat so was fairly comfortable for the visiting keeper.
Bengal continued to press as the game crept towards the final ten minutes and Redwood had a couple of openings but was wasteful again and saw the hosts keep the striker at bay. A decent crowd of 134 had come to watch this derby hoping to see a classic but sadly they saw a game were neither side wanted to get beaten, and so it proved as the game ended goal less and saw each side take a point.
