Southend Manor 3 Barking 1

Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy 2nd Round, Wednesday 9th October 2013

Manor entertained Barking looking to end a run of six straight losses in all competitions.  Barking have started the season well so were going to prove a difficult opposition.   Manor made the perfect start to the match however as in the 1st minute DAN WILLIAMS ran onto a through ball and slotted past Barking keeper Harley for a 1-0 lead.    Manor were playing much better than they had done at the weekend at Takeley although the next 20 or so minutes was limited to midfield.   On 28 minutes Barking's O'Brien had a good chance as he was played in by Dumaka but his effort went high and wide of the target. Jamie Williams then immediately had a decent effort himself for the home side but his effort drifted wide of the goal. Then on 34 minutes it should of been 2-0 to Manor as Jamie Williams was sent clear and as Barking keeper Harley came out to close the angle Williams struck the ball past him but inches wide of the upright.   On 37 minutes Foster had a decent effort for the away side but his shot across Priddle in the Manor goal sailed wide.  Barking had been pushing Manor back for a few minutes at this stage and on 39 minutes they grabbed their equaliser.   Lawrence Priddle came to try and collect a cross into the box but before he could Barking forward DUMAKA got to the ball first to guide his header into the goal for 1-1.   Barking finished the half the stronger after a slow start and the teams went in level at the break. The second half was only eight minutes old when Manor retook the lead through BARV WAIWAIKU, his second goal in as many games, when he latched onto a through ball to send a shot past Harley for 2-1.   On 58 minutes Brad Williams, who had been brilliant in the middle of the park again, hit a dipping effort from 20 yards or so just wide of the Barking goal with keeper Harley beaten all ends up.   Manor made their first change on 61 minutes when Churchill Chia-Titor was replaced by Joe Bright.   Then on 66 minutes a big flashpoint.   As play was going on in the Manor half two players were grappling on the floor and then soon all players were involved in an unsavoury melee.   It ended with Manor's Jamie Williams and also Barkings J Butler being shown a red card so both teams were down to ten men for the last twenty mins.   Barking almost scored on 70 minutes but Dumaka's effort went wide.  Then on 76 minutes Manor put some daylight between them and the away side when DAN WILLIAMS tapped into an empty net following a defensive howler from keeper and defender to make it 3-1.   It was so nearly 3-2 on 80 minutes when a cross from he right was deflected towards to top corner of the goal but Lawrence Priddle tipped it over brilliantly.   Manor made their second change on 85 minutes when Kye Jude limped off to be replaced by Ricky Alabaster.   Manor saw out the remaining minutes comfortably and will welcome their first win for a month.
