Southend Manor U16s 2 Tilbury U16s 2

EJA U16s Essex Division, Sunday 7th April 2013

Manor's Under 16's produced a herculean effort to hold Tilbury to a 2-2 draw. Manor only had nine players available for this game so had were already up against it from the off. However the nine men of Manor took the lead on 8 minutes when their captain Kye Jude produced a fantastic 25 yard dipping shot from the left hand side of the pitch which beat the keeper all ends up. Tilbury were struggling to play against the nine men and a lot of sloppy passes and play was frustrating for the away side. On 33 minutes Manor incredibly went 2-0 in front when Charlie Little burst into the right hand side of the box and he finished high past the keeper brilliantly. So as the half came to a close the nine men had a fantastic 2-0 advantage. The second half was always going to prove difficult for Manor as Tilbury's two man advantage started to tell and on 48 minutes Tilbury earned a penalty kick which was duly dispatched for 2-1 and then on 62 minutes they got the equaliser with a good header from a corner.  Manor were now drawing on every available bit of energy to hold their opponents at bay and some great defensive blocks and clearances kept them out. Manor did have a couple of chances of their own near the end but lack of energy physically and mentally resulted in poor finishes. Right at the end their was a melee when a Tilbury player and Manor's captain Kye Jude came together with the former ending up with a red card to frustrate the away side even more. It was a shame the game had to end this way as it was played out in good spirit up to this point. Anyway it was a fantastic performance by the nine men and there commitment was second to none today and every one of them should be proud of their effort today.
